Rowing the River to the Sea
- Strymon River
- 3 - 6 Days
- Very Easy
- 4 - 12
Description
Following the course of the last thirty kilometers of the Strymon River, you experience the transition from river to sea. The waters of the Strymon narrate a story of millennia as they circle one of the most important ancient Greek cities, Amphipolis. Memories awaken as you are given the opportunity to paddle along one of the key natural routes once taken by the fleets of Alexander the Great. You row through crystal-clear waters, arriving before Ancient Stagira and the neighboring historic settlements. This experience, in a land that left its mark on the entire ancient world and served as the cradle of Aristotle, shakes the traveler to the core, awakening ancient knowledge within. At the end of the day, traditional local flavors-combining simplicity, quality, and heritage-complete the feeling of fulfillment and enjoyment. The lush green landscape soothes the mind, the river’s flow awakens the body, and the opening to the sea elevates the spirit.
